SD Highway 115 Corridor Study
About
The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) has initiated a study of S.D. Highway 115 between East Dike Place/Drive in Sioux Falls, S.D., and West 4th Street in Dell Rapids, S.D. The SDDOT pavement management system indicates a future need for pavement replacement or reconstruction on this corridor. This vital 15-mile stretch of highway, connecting the communities of Dell Rapids, Baltic, Renner, and Sioux Falls, has experienced increasing volumes of traffic which presents an ongoing effort and challenge to plan for the sustainability of Highway 115.
This study is a collaborative effort between SDDOT, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Sioux Falls Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)/South Eastern Council of Governments (SECOG), City of Sioux Falls, City of Baltic, City of Dell Rapids, Minnehaha County, stakeholders, and the public to develop a comprehensive plan for the corridor. This study will serve as a long-range plan for the SDDOT and other agencies for future improvements to address needs along the corridor.
Objectives
Develop
A long-range plan for the Highway 115 corridor, which includes:
- Access management
- Future traffic volumes, operations, and route reliability
- Traffic safety
- Intersection and turn lane configurations
- Typical roadway sections (ex. number of lanes, passing lanes, shoulder widths, etc.)
- Multimodal considerations
- Countermeasures for blowing snow
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
- Environmental resources
Determine
- Potential intersection configurations for identified intersections along the corridor.
- The need for additional through, turning, and/or passing lanes along Highway 115.
